Set in the North East of the England, NewcastleGateshead has excellent access links. By train it only takes 2hrs 45mins from London and 1hr 20mins from Edinburgh. The A1(M) runs from the North to South and passes close by NewcastleGateshead. There are also regular and frequent air services from European and major international cities around the world.

Sunderland Tourist Information.
Sunderland is situated on England's North East coast and is the largest city between Leeds and Edinburgh. Sunderland is easily accessible from the A1, the main north-south route along the eastern UK, and from the A19. The cities of Durham and Newcastle are within very easy reach by road and by public transport, 12 and 20 miles away respectively. The light-rail Tyne & Wear Metro service is an easy means of getting around the Sunderland city region, as well as offering a 30-minute direct link into Newcastle city centre. Middlesbrough Tourist Information.
Middlesbrough at the heart of the North East of England is fast gaining a reputation for innovation. Home to the famous eighteenth-century maritime explorer, Captain James Cook, his life is celebrated at the award-winning Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. Middlesbrough is just half an hour away by train from Darlington Station, which is connected to a nationwide service. There are direct trains between Middlesbrough and Newcastle, Manchester and Manchester Airport, Leeds and York. A TransPennine Express service also operates between Middlesbrough and Liverpool.

The direct coastal train from Newcastle to Middlesbrough via Sunderland takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. Trains depart approximately once per hour. It is run by Northern Rail.

Durham Tees Valley Airport
Durham Tees Valley Airport is located only 6 miles east of Darlington. Sky Express service 737 offers direct connections daily from Durham Tees Valley Airport to Darlington Train Station, allowing onward connections. The dedicated bus service is free* for air passengers. Taxis to Darlington train station cost approximately £10. Newcastle and Middlesbrough can be reached via direct train from Darlington.
